I learned (re-learned?) something today. I woke up with a headache,...one that felt like it could keep going and build to one of those dreaded crescendos if I didn't act quickly. And my diaper smelled strongly of ammonia. And then,...besides changing my diaper, I remembered something very important. Ammonia can get into the brain, where it causes a migraine-type headache. But L-Ornithine neutralizes ammonia. I took just one capsule of ORNITHINE, and very soon (like 15 minutes) my headache was completely gone and no hint of it has come back all day long. I know that other things can cause headaches, but --with all our renal insufficiencies-- this is one possibility and remedy I wanted to share with the rest of you.
"... But, of the three, L-Ornithine is particularly helpful for removing ammonia from the brain, because the brain does not contain the ornithine-related enzyme necessary to render ammonia harmless by changing it into urea..." nutristart.com/ammonia-toxicity-part-2/
I ain't no medic but i figured out how it works for me. frontal lobe pain is definitely due to stress and worry, the whole head is either the flu or missing out on a good breakfast. Sometimes i go from 6am to 4pm on just tea and coffee. controlling the cause sort of.
"The body naturally removes ammonia through a process known as the urea cycle. In a nutshell, when ammonia enters the liver, the liver converts ammonia to urea, the urea is then sent to the kidneys where it is then flushed out via urine. This is how the body addresses the normal amounts of ammonia it encounters daily, but this process can be disrupted and hindered when liver and kidney function become inefficient through damage or if they're overburdened with work. As a result, ammonia is not properly removed from the body and will begin to back up into the bloodstream, and from there, begin entering other organs (i.e., the brain), teeth, other body tissue, and disrupt the nervous system as it is a neurotoxin." www.tiredoflyme.com/ammonia-a-lyme-disease-exotoxin.html
