I came across this pic earlier of an adapted park bench and thought what a great idea it is. I do hope that local authorities see what how useful these would be not only for chair users but for those who can walk but need some support getting up from the seat.
I love how there is space inbtween for a chair user...and also higher seats and arm rests...

I assume they are everywhere but at some coastal towns in Queensland (down under) there are numerous tables with bench seating attached that are placed along the fore-shore and around public bbq areas. They have allowed spaces so that w/chair users can sit at the table with their companions.
(never assume as it makes an ass out of u and me by unknown)
petelanddownunder....im not sure if these benches are in many places at all. I saw the pic on a companies website how make accessible products. I like the idea of local authorities adopting an equal consideration to chair users with the picnic tables as you mention.
I dont understand the quote though , well i understand it but not why lol
Call me weird but the most enjoyable moments of my leisure time is the thought of taking a small bbq set out in the countryside and cooking burgers chicken, meat and sausages. A bottle of wine and good card game included. There are a few fixed park benches in which one can eat a country meal without taking tables and chairs from home so it could work out fine. Since being chair bound i don't organize the big bbqs i used to do. the generator and fairy lights are all still there. Oh how i love being around all the family, the memories. granddad skinning rabbits and frying them in wine. i ve sold my work truck so i can't carry the stuff needed nor man handle it alone from sitting. Alas each time i try to organize something everyone has an excuse or other not to attend. To hell with it just called family members, i be at the park sat 8th april if you want to come your welcome if not its still on for me. Guess its just going to be wife, daughter and me. Probably the i don't care attitude will work well, would not even mind cathing behind a tree, or in a plastic bottle so camping out ain't a problem either. i dying for a good April swim to if some could help me in and out of sea. Its been a tough, tough year, i really want to enjoy the upcoming Easter school holidays.
Sounds wonderful delboy, we have a big fish fry and family reunion at my house every summer, we rent canoes on the river by the house and a big party bus to and from the river, everyone comes for 3 or 4 days. We play Yard games and sit around the fire at night getting reacquainted and reminiscing. Everyone who lives close enough brings their campers and park in the yard, ALOT of beer and good food and even better company. This will be like the 26th year in a row here this June. I can hardly wait for it to get here, but by the time it's over I'm ready for it to be over, lol. Great times.
Your right Kil there's nothing weird with enjoying a good bbq, what is weird is the excuses i continually get from people not being able to come. if you want to do something you will make/find time just like i do even though i am chair bound.
